Honda Africa Twin introduced in India with Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT)

Honda has begun taking bookings for the all new Honda Africa Twin motorcycle in India. The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin is the flagship adventure-tourer motorcycle from Honda’s global lineup. It will be brought in via the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route and is the first 1000 cc model to be assembled by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India.

The bookings are open for first 50 customers only and lucky customers among them will get an opportunity to attend the grand outdoor True Adventure Africa Twin India launch event. The motorcycle can be booked via Honda’s exclusive sales & service Wing World outlets and is available in a new Victory Red colour.

The Honda Africa Twin is powered by a 999 cc Parallel Twin engine that generates 87 bhp of power and 92 Nm of torque. It is equipped with Dual Clutch Transmission technology, a world first in motorcycles. The DCT system provides the rider a choice between a manual or automatic gear shifting operation based on the road condition.

The adventure touring motorcycle also comes with different riding modes such as Neutral (N), Drive (D) or Sport (S). These can be selected via the right-side thumb switch. The Manual (MT) mode allows changing gears manually using the left-side controls, enabling one to shift up (+) or down (–) with ease. The Africa Twin DCT is also provided with a convenient parking brake lever.

The Africa Twin is also equipped with the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) which works in unison with the Anti-lock Braking system (ABS). These can be set independently to give almost 80 different possible combinations. There is also the “G” Switch which when engaged improves the traction throughout all the modes. The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin motorcycle also gets a unique incline detection feature to tackle a loose, steep track or dune.

Braking power comes from a 310mm wave-style, twin floating front discs with Nissin 4-pot radial callipers at the front and a 256 mm disc in the rear. The suspension duty at the front is carried out by the Showa 45mm cartridge-type inverted telescopic fork with dial-style preload adjuster and DF adjustment while the rear gets a monoblock cast aluminium swingarm with Pro-Link with gas-charged damper, hydraulic dial-style preload adjuster and rebound damping adjustment.

Other features of the Honda Africa Twin include LED Headlamps which ensures brighter and richer vision while also reducing the power consumption by 90%. It also complies with the global norm of AHO (Always Headlight On). The indicators and the tail light of the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin also use LED lights. The Rally style, highly informative LCD display provides a whole lot of information to the rider including the Speedometer, Tachometer, Fuel, Gear position, Odometer, ABS, HSTC, Trip and Clock.
