2021 Hyundai i20 ERA base variant spied at a dealership yard

Hyundai i20 is one of the most popular cars in the premium hatchback segment which is currently ruled by the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

The new i20 currently comes in four trim levels: Magna, Sportz, Asta, and Asta+ (O). The company will soon launch a new base variant i20 Era in the coming days. The new Hyundai i20 Era base variant was recently spotted parked at a dealership yard. It was captured on a video by a YouTube channel named AutoTrend.

The new i20 Era will miss out on a lot of features, allowing Hyundai to price the hatchback very competitively and attract more buyers. The company could also position this variant as an option for fleet owners.

On the exterior, the i20 Era variant will lose out on the piano black finish on various parts such as the grille, front spoiler and get a regular non painted plastic finish instead. Projector headlamps are replaced with halogen headlights. The car also is void of fog lamps and chrome elements. This trim gets 14-inch steel rims without any wheel caps.

The manually adjusted outside mirrors are body painted and the indicator lamp now sits on the front fender instead of being placed in the ORVMs. The rear taillamp which used to powered by LED will now use regular halogen bulbs.

Inside, the i20 Era gets an all-black interior theme. The steering wheel houses on the RESET and TRIP buttons. There is no roof mounted interior light on the front and gets only at the middle. The steering also no longer adjustable on this base-spec model. Power windows are only available for the front two side windows, while a manual mechanism is provided for the rear ones.

The i20 Era will also not get any infotainment system and there will be no remote locking feature. Analogue instrument cluster, front 12V socket and AC rotary dials are features similar to that available on the i20 Magna variant

The new i20 Era is expected to be a petrol-only model with a 5-speed manual transmission. The current 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine could do its duty on this base model. Price is expected to be around INR 6.0 Lakh (ex-showroom) which is much lower than the i20 Magna that currently retails at INR 6.85 lakh (ex-showroom).
