A New ‘Universe’ of Mobility

The launch introduced a unique naming convention specifically for China: future IONIQ models will be named after planets. This “universe” concept symbolizes the vehicle orbiting the customer, who remains the central focus of every design.

“Starting with the two concept cars unveiled today, we will continue to present products that reflect deep insight into Chinese customers,” said Li Fenggang, President at Beijing Hyundai Motor Company.

The Concepts: VENUS and EARTH

Hyundai showcased two distinct “planets” that serve as a design barometer for upcoming production models. Both vehicles utilize a single-curve silhouette intended to be “instantly recognizable”.

The VENUS Concept: An Iconic Sedan

  • Exterior: Features a “Radiant Gold” finish, a lightweight frame-structured roof, and a transparent spoiler.
  • Interior: A driver-focused cockpit with layered mood lighting and a playful integrated character named “Lumi”.
  • Materials: A premium contrast between soft suede and chrome-gold seatback covers.

The EARTH Concept: The Family SUV

Representing biological balance and vitality, the EARTH is a bold SUV designed for reliability.

  • Exterior: Finished in “Aurora Shield,” the design balances sharp edges with robust details like exposed bolt accents and skid plates.
  • Interior: A “small Earth” cabin featuring innovative air-hug seats made of soft air modules.
  • Features: “Shy-tech” elements, a fun character named “Aero,” and hidden map patterns of Beijing tucked within the design.

Tailoring Technology for China

Hyundai isn’t just bringing global models to China; it is redefining the IONIQ experience through localized tech. To address the specific needs of Chinese consumers, the brand confirmed:

  • Autonomous Driving: Systems developed in collaboration with local Chinese partners.
  • EREVs: The adoption of market-specific solutions, including Extended Range Electric Vehicles.
  • Smart Cabins: Production models will focus on the “smart driving” and “smart cabin” experiences high in demand by local users.

What’s Next?

The IONIQ 6 N was recently named the 2026 World Performance Car, underscoring the brand’s global momentum. Hyundai aims to bring this same award-winning quality to China while adhering to its “Lead, don’t follow” ethos.

Full details and technical specifications are expected to be revealed during the Auto China 2026 press conference on April 24 at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing.
