The BMW X2 pioneered the Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) concept in the premium compact segment. Now, its second-generation model steps onto the scene, offering even greater distinctiveness, sportiness, and forward-thinking design. With significantly expanded dimensions and a pronounced coupe silhouette, the new BMW X2’s exterior design unmistakably highlights the evolutionary leap it has taken. This progressive spirit is also reflected in the fully electric BMW iX2 variant, a wide range of automated driving and parking systems, and the innovative digital services provided by the new BMW iDrive featuring QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9.
The global market rollout is set to commence in March 2024, starting with the all-electric BMW iX2 xDrive30 and the high-performance BMW X2 M35i xDrive model, along with one petrol and one diesel option. By summer 2024, a second fully electric variant and another diesel model will be introduced to expand the lineup.
The new BMW X2 and BMW iX2 will be manufactured felxibily on a shared assembly line at the BMW Group Plant Regensburg. The high-voltage batteries required for the fully electric model are also produced at the Regensburg facility. The introduction of the BMW iX2 signifies the BMW Group’s ongoing commitment to expediting the transition to electric mobility. Furthermore, the compact Sports Activity Coupe’s premium character is enhanced by significant progress in sustainability, which covers the entire lifecycle of the vehicle – from eco-conscious production to usage and eventual recycling.
Exterior Design: An Authentic Sports Activity Coupe with Dynamic Lines and Strong Presence.
The new BMW X2 boasts a distinctive and visually captivating design that sets it apart from the brand’s compact Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the BMW X1. It is readily recognizable as a true Sports Activity Coupe (SAC). The new model is characterized by its dynamically extended lines and generous surface detailing. Compared to its predecessor, the new BMW X2 has grown in size, now measuring 4,554 millimeters in length (an increase of 194 millimeters), 1,845 millimeters in width (an increase of 21 millimeters), and 1,590 millimeters in height (an increase of 64 millimeters). Furthermore, its extended wheelbase and wider tracks enhance space in both the five seats and the trunk. The new X2 offers a maximum cargo capacity ranging from 560 to 1,470 liters, depending on the model variant, while the BMW iX2 provides between 525 and 1,400 liters of cargo space.
The new BMW X2 boasts a model-specific front end that exudes confidence and a commanding presence. It features distinctive LED headlights and a nearly hexagonal BMW kidney grille, which is a first in the premium compact segment and can be optionally equipped with BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. Additionally, Adaptive LED Headlights with a non-dazzling matrix high beam are available as an option.
The roofline flows seamlessly into the rear, creating a sleek, coupe-like silhouette in the classic style of a BMW Sports Activity Coupe (SAC). At the rear, the flared wheel arches and muscular shoulders take center stage. The horizontal lines of the rear light design unique to this model add to the sporty character, as does a Gurney-style spoiler and an eye-catching rear apron.
For the BMW X2 M35i xDrive, there are M-specific design elements such as two sets of integrated exhaust tailpipes in the rear apron, which give it a particularly dynamic appearance. An M Sport package is available for all other model variants, including the new BMW iX2, offering aerodynamically optimized exterior details. The M Sport package Pro, an optional upgrade, includes extended M High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, M lights Shadowline, an M rear spoiler, and an M Sport braking system with red-painted calipers, among other features.

The newly developed seats offer versatility with options like Veganza perforated upholstery and Vernasca leather, featuring attractive quilting, as alternatives to the standard cloth seating. For added comfort, customers can choose sport seats, electric seat adjustment with a memory function, lumbar support, and a massage feature. Improvements have been made to enhance both acoustic comfort and occupant safety, including the introduction of an interaction airbag between the driver’s seat and front passenger seat as standard equipment.
Enhanced Standard Features and Tailored Personalization.
The new BMW X2 boasts an expanded set of standard features that include two-zone automatic climate control, the BMW Maps navigation system, and a Sport leather steering wheel. Automatic tailgate operation, along with four USB-C ports and a 12V power socket in both the center console and the rear cargo area, are also part of the standard package. In comparison to its predecessor, there is a substantial increase in the number of driver assistance systems and digital services available.
The introduction of newly organized equipment packages allows for precise customization of the vehicle. To further elevate its premium appeal, options such as a mirror package, steering wheel heating, and the Harman Kardon Sound System are available. Notable among the optional features is the panoramic glass sunroof, featuring dark-tinted glass that extends all the way to the windscreen and roof frame on both sides, and extends rearward in a single section into the rear part of the roof. Additionally, an electrically operated trailer tow hitch can be selected as an option.
BMW iX2: Compact SAC Redefining Premium Electric Mobility.
The new SAC line-up includes an all-electric addition in the form of the BMW iX2 xDrive30 from the very beginning. This variant features two tightly integrated drive units, one positioned at the front axle and one at the rear, which collectively produce a system output of 230 kW/313 hp (including temporary boost) and a system torque of 494 Nm (364 lb-ft). The iX2 xDrive30 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a brisk 5.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph). Thanks to the impressive 64.8 kWh usable energy in the high-voltage battery and the drive system’s high efficiency, it achieves a remarkable range of 417 to 449 kilometers (259 to 279 miles) in the WLTP cycle.
The exceptional range figures are further supported by adaptive recuperation and the MAX RANGE function. The latest iteration of the Max Performance Charging software is primarily designed to enhance charging efficiency. Moreover, the fully electric SAC is equipped to take advantage of the Plug & Charge Multi Contract function. For those seeking optimized home charging, the new Connected Home Charging Package, tailored for load- and solar-optimized home charging, is also available for the BMW iX2.

Perfect Balance Between Agility and Comfort, Introduction of 21-Inch Light-Alloy Wheels for a Compact BMW Model.
The compact SAC’s advanced chassis technology achieves a seamless equilibrium between dynamic, agile handling and comfortable long-distance driving. This balance is achieved through a combination of factors: a lightweight yet sturdy body construction, an elongated wheelbase, wider tracks compared to the previous model, and targeted enhancements to the front’s single-joint spring strut axle and the rear’s three-link axle. The new BMW X2 is equipped with standard near-actuator wheel slip limitation, enhancing both traction and directional stability. Additionally, it introduces features like the integrated braking system and lift-related damping at the front axle. For those looking to enhance their driving experience, the optional adaptive M suspension offers frequency-selective damping, sport steering, and a 15-millimeter reduction in ride height.
The standard wheels for the new BMW iX2 xDrive30 are 17-inch light-alloy wheels designed for aerodynamic efficiency.
