Porsche has unveiled the third-generation Cayenne. The SUV retains the DNA of the original Cayenne that was launched back in 2003 but now further pushes the performance boundaries with new technologies that significantly improve on-road performance and comfort. The new 2019 Porsche Cayenne is more athletic both in looks and driving performance. It will be available in two models at the time of launch – Cayenne and Cayenne S.

The new 2019 Porsche Cayenne adopts the brand’s new design language. It features new horizontal light edges and large air intakes that give the SUV a wider and more athletic appeal. The SUV now gets LED headlamps as standard on all models. Customers can also opt for upgraded Porsche Dynamic Light System (PLDS) or LED Matrix Beam headlights, which also include PDLS. The rear fascia features a new three-dimensional LED light design that features the Porsche logo spanning through an end-to-end narrow strip of lights.

While the wheelbase remains the same, the overall length has slightly increased by 63 mm. Thr roof height had reduced by 9 mm compared to its predecessors. The cargo area volume now stands at 770 liters which is an increase of 100 liters. The wheels are also an inch larger in diameter and are fitted with wider tires on the rear axle for the first time.

The body of the new Porsche Cayenne is made from a combination of alloy and steel. The exterior shell is made entirely of aluminum while the floor pan assembly, front section, and almost all other chassis components are manufactured from alloy. The innovative lithium-ion polymer starter battery helps save over 10 kg. In total, the weight of the Cayenne when empty has been reduced from 2040 kg to 1985 kg.

The interior carries many of the design cues and new technologies that we saw with the launch of the 2019 Porsche Panamera. The Porsche Advanced Cockpit is fully integrated into the sporty, luxurious atmosphere. It features a 12.3-inch full-HD touchscreen from the latest generation of Porsche Communication Management (PCM). The standard Porsche Connect Plus allows access to online services and the Internet. The instrument cluster features a central analog tachometer flanked by two 7-inch full-HD displays, which display all other relevant driving data.

It also features new sound systems from Bose and Burmester. The Connect Plus is available through the integrated LTE-enabled SIM card. Additionally, the Offroad Precision App that was specially developed for the Porsche Cayenne is also a part of the new standard package.

The new 2019 Porsche Cayenne is powered by a 3-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged engine that produces 340 hp (250 kW) and a torque of 450 Nm. It can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and can do 5.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package. It can reach a top speed of 245 km/h.

Under the hood of the Porsche Cayenne S sits a newly-developed 2.9-litre V6 engine with twin turbocharging. It delivers a power 440 hp (324 kW) and a torque of 550 Nm. The SUV can accelerate to 100 km/h from standstill in just 5.2 seconds and with Sport Chrono Package this time is 4.9 seconds. It can do a top speed of 265 km/h.

The 2019 Porsche Cayenne is equipped with the new eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox which has shorter response times and sportier ratios in the lower gears. The long-transmission eighth gear ensures low torques, optimised fuel consumption and relaxed driving. The SUV comes with 5 driving modes – Onroad, Mud, Gravel, Sand and Rocks, the latter four developed for mild off-road conditions. The new Cayenne is also equipped with the active all-wheel drive and Porsche Traction Management (PTM)  system.

Porsche has redeveloped the Sport Chrono Package for the new Cayenne. Along with the Normal, Sport and Sport Plus driving modes, the driver can select an individually configurable mode as well. Pressing the Sport Response button in the center activates the engine and transmission maps for maximum performance. The Sport Chrono Package also includes a separate PSM Sport mode, in which the driver can utilize the new Porsche Cayenne’s full driving dynamics.

The Porsche 4D Chassis Control system of the new Cayenne works in real time, optimising the SUV’s driving dynamics. For the first time, the Cayenne is available with electric rear-axle steering. This improves the SUV’s agility and stability. It also makes every day driving easier by reducing the turning radius. Customers of the new 2019 Porsche Cayenne can also opt for Adaptive Air Suspension, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) roll stabilization which enhances the driving experience.

The new Cayenne is also the first model to offer the innovative and visually appealing Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB). It consists of a cast-iron disc with a tungsten-carbide coating which increases the friction values and wear and brake dust are reduced. The brake calipers are painted white, while the surface of the discs develops a unique gloss level after bedding-in. The PSCB is only available in combination with the 20-inch and the 21-inch wheels.
