Bajaj Auto and KTM decide to take Husqvarna Motorcycles global; Will be made in India

Bajaj Auto, one of the largest producer of motorcycles in India and KTM, one of Europe’s biggest motorcycle producer based in Austria, are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their partnership.

To elevate their cooperation to the next level both companies have decided to take the Husqvarna Motorcycles brand global. Founded in 1903, Husqvarna Motorcycles is the world’s second oldest motorcycle brand for which KTM has secured a long-term license agreement in the year 2013.

Initially the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 701 will be produced in Mattighofen, Austria. These bikes will be launched in early 2018. Later the production for the Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 motorcycles for the global markets will be shifted to Bajaj’s factory in Chakan, Pune.

Currently Bajaj Auto produces The KTM Duke (125-390) along with the KTM RC (125-390) bikes at its manufacturing unit in Chakan. These products are distributed by the two partners globally.

Bajaj expects to increase the production of KTM and Husqvarna branded motorcycles, produced in India from 1,00,000 units in 2017 to over 2,00,000 units in the next few years. The company will retail the Husqvarna motorcycles at a similar level as KTM products in India and Indonesia.
